Describing the feelings of people in Palestine and other Arab countries during the July 15 coup attempt in Turkey, Middle East experts said their feelings were not different from the people in Ankara and Istanbul who were facing gun fire, bombing and armed attack by the coupist soldiers.

A group from the Fetullah Terrorists Organization (FETÖ) staged a coup attempt on July 15 night, martyring 241 people and injuring around 2,200 others.

The coupists, who have been following their U.S.-based terror leader Fetullah Gülen, had fired at pro-democracy demonstrators, plunged tanks over them, dropped bombs on the Turkish parliament and attacked a hotel where President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his family members were passing a family vacation.

Dr. Ibrahim Bouazzi, editor-in-chief of TNN TV said that the coup attempt in Turkey disquieted Islamic Parties only.

“Because Turkey, which is led by the AK Party, is a source of hope for them. Turkey was and still is a model country for them," he added.

Bouazzi said that Turkey was representing Islam with human rights, justice and democracy, while the United States and global powers were attempting to dub Islam as “Daesh, beheadings, suicide bombings".

'Who would defend us, if the coup succeeds in Turkey?'

Palestinian Political Science expert Dr. Mu'in Naim said that Turkey carries particular importance to Palestinians.

“The Palestinian people were witnessing the incidents in the July 15 night with big anxiety and fear, because they understood the damage that could happen to the Palestine and Muslim worlds if Turkey falls," he said.

Naim said that if the attempted coup had succeeded, Turkey's policy on the Middle East, especially the people in the occupied territory in Palestine, would be reversed.

“Every Palestinian had these questions in their mind on the coup night, 'Who will defend us, if the coup succeeds in Turkey? Morsi was ousted in Egypt. And, if Erdoğan is overthrown now, what would happen to us?'" according to Naim.

“People in the occupied Gaza Strip were full of apprehension, same as the people in Istanbul and Ankara," he said.

“Turkey is the hope for this Ummah", Naim added.

Algerian Academician Dr. Ismail Khaldi said that the Algeria administration was acted according to the result of the coup attempt.

The Algerian government announced its support to Ankara after the coup was completely foiled by Turkish people and political authority, Khaldi said and added, that Erdoğan had a special place in the hearts of Algerians.

“Erdoğan is the voice for the oppressed to Algerians. They wanted to take this voice under its wing. Many of my academician friends wanted to come to Istanbul [due to show their support to Erdoğan] on the coup night. Even, one of my friends in France had come to Istanbul," he said.

Associate Professor Ibrahim Halalsheh from Jordan said he followed the live update of the incidents in Turkey all night long.

Halalsheh said that Muslims were thirsty for victory. “Muslims' sensitivities are damaged, denigrated everywhere. [Then] a Muslim leader comes and says 'One minute' to the world. He openly criticizes the credit rating agencies. He says that the world is bigger than five."

“This is the real leader as we, Muslims, expect. We cannot thank enough for this," he underlined.

Ankara-Based SETA Research Institute Foreign Relation Expert Ahmed Yusuf said the coup attempt was targeting not only Turkey, but all Muslim countries.

Yusuf, an Egyptian fellow, said that this attempted coup should not be compared to other coups in the world.

The main aim of this coup was to change the fate of the region, he added.

“This attempt was an attack on the Muslim World. Now, there is a strong and sustained Turkey in the region. So, we cannot determine this incident as a normal coup attempt. The coup attempt in Turkey carried meaning to the Muslim society in every country," Yusuf said.
