In an interview given to Spiegel on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that Tehran does not see real US intentions to confront ISIL and the growing conflict.
"We see no willingness on the part of the United States to seriously resist ISIL,” Zarif told the news outlet.
Zarif explained that ISIL was bent on destabilising the Middle East and Iran will support any real efforts to counter the group at both a global and regional level. He emphasised in particular that the West was also part of the problem saying that, " People, who were born and raised in the West, now are in Iraq and Syria beheading the victims or burning them alive," the minister added.
According to the US National Counterterrorism Center, more than 20,000 foreigners from 90 countries, including thousands of westerners, are suspected to have joined ISIL over the last three years.
