Following reports that a pipeline between Iraq's Kurdish north and Turkey could soon become operational, State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki said Friday that Washington continues to oppose oil exports from Iraq that are not sanctioned by Baghdad.
"Well, our consistent position hasn't changed, which is that we don't support oil exports from any part of Iraq without approval of the Iraqi Federal Government, so we continue to urge the federal government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government to reach a constitutional solution," she said.
Baghdad opposes the export of oil without its approval.
Still, Psaki hailed recent improvements in relations between Iraq and Turkey.
"We're encouraged by recent efforts on both sides to improve relations, including recent reciprocal visits. Improvement in Iraq-Turkey relations is critical for regional stability and cooperation, so we continue to encourage that," said Psaki.Last Mod: 16 Kasım 2013, 10:09
