Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Amman on Tuesday to brief King Abdullah II on the outcome of Palestinian-Israeli negotiations and US Secretary of State John Kerry's visit, diplomatic sources said.

Abbas will sit down with King Abdullah on Wednesday to discuss the latest developments of the US-mediated talks, the sources said.

Kerry visited the Middle East earlier this week in a new push to advance peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel.

According to the sources, Jordan asked Kerry for guarantees on the kingdom's strategic interests in any peace settlement between the Palestinians and Israel.

Jordanian officials fear that a possible settlement could come at the expense of the right of return for hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees in Jordan.

The Palestinians and the Israelis resumed their peace talks last July, after a three-year hiatus, under American sponsorship.

The results of the negations, which focus on final settlement issues, borders, Israeli settlements, Jerusalem and the return of Palestinian refugees, have not been announced yet.
