Moussa Abu Marzouq, a member of the political office of Palestinian movement Hamas, took over the foreign relations file in the faction, a source close to Hamas said Sunday.
Abu Marzouq succeeded Mohamed Nasr, who was responsible for the file before, the source told on condition of anonymity.
He added that Nasr would take Abu Marzouq's stead as the head of the media section in the faction.
The source noted that Abu Marzouq would be based in Qatari capital Doha, instead of the Gaza Strip.
A member of the political office of Hamas, Abu Marzouq used to live in Syrian capital Damascus, but had to move to Cairo after the Syrian civil war erupted in 2011.
He then moved to the Gaza Strip after Aug. 26, following a 51-day Israeli onslaught on the coastal enclave.
On March 20, Abu Marzouq moved to Doha to receive medical treatment there.
Some other senior Hamas leaders, including Khaled Meshaal, the top leader of Hamas, also live in Doha.
