Clashes broke out on Friday in the city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian youths angered by Israel's killing of a local man.

Thousands of mourners in Al-Khalil bid farewell to Anas Fouad al-Atrash, 23, killed by Israeli soldiers early on Friday at Bethlehem's "Container" checkpoint.

The Israeli army claimed the young man had tried to stab a soldier manning the checkpoint, prompting Israeli troops to shoot him to death.

Following the funeral, eyewitnesses said, violence erupted between stone-throwing Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers.

Israeli troops used live ammunition, rubber bullets and teargas to disperse angry mourners, leaving scores of Palestinians suffering gas inhalation.

A journalist was also injured in the foot by a rubber bullet, witnesses said.

Clashes were also reported outside Israel's Ofer Prison in western Ramallah after Palestinian youths hurled stones and Molotov cocktails at Israeli troops.
