Four Palestinians were killed late on Sunday in Israeli strikes on different parts of the Gaza Strip, bringing to 1939 the number of Palestinians killed by Israel since July 7, according to a Palestinian Health Ministry official.

"More than 50 more people were injured in Israeli strikes today," Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra told Anadolu Agency.

Earlier in the day, rescue workers pulled the bodies of 16 Palestinians from under the rubble of bombed-out homes in the eastern districts of the Gaza Strip, he recalled.

The latest fatalities bring to 1939 the number of Palestinians, mostly civilians, killed by Israel in 35 days of attacks on the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Israel has been pounding the coastal enclave since July 7 with the stated aim of stemming out rocket attacks.

Israel stopped its attacks from Tuesday through Friday under an Egypt-brokered three-day ceasefire.

But Israel has been striking different parts of the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire expired.
