A young Palestinian man in the northern Gaza Strip was injured on Friday by gunfire from Israeli army troops stationed along the enclave's border with Israel.

"A Palestinian youth in the northern town of Jabalia sustained a gunshot wound to the leg as a result of Israeli fire," Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qodra told The Anadolu Agency.

"The injured youth was taken in moderate condition to the Kamal Edwan Hospital in the city of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip," said al-Qodra.

Eyewitnesses told AA that Israeli troops had opened fire on several Palestinians near the border in the northern Gaza Strip.

Palestinians living in the area frequently complain of cross-border fire from Israeli troops stationed nearby.

On August 26, Israel and the Palestinian groups signed a cease-fire agreement that ended a seven-week Israeli military onslaught on the Gaza Strip.

Last summer's offensive left over 2,160 Palestinians dead – the vast majority of them civilians – and some 11,000 injured.
