World Bulletin / News Desk

Israel's siege on the Gaza Strip continues to take its toll on Palestinians who live there, having to make do with limited supplies of electricity, water and other resources.

However, the difficult situation is causing Gazans to use new creative initiatives to improve the quality of life in their neighborhoods in whatever way they can.

Electrician Hassan Saeed has developed a way to light streets in the Al-Shejaea neighbourhood using old car batteries to light two 500 metre streets and 60 homes using LED panel lights for up to 8 hours during power cuts.

This new scheme is also used to power radios, laptops and internet routers.

According to the Middle-East Monitor, Saeed does not charge for his charitable lighting service, but collects donations for generous individuals.
