The Gaza-based Hamas movement on Friday slammed the reported arrest of a group linked to its military wing, the Ezzedin al-Qassam Brigades, by Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces in the West Bank over an alleged plot to launch bomb-carrying drones at Israel.
Earlier Friday, the Israeli Walla website reported that PA forces had arrested a group linked to Hamas who had been plotting to build explosive-laden drones for deployment against Israeli targets.
The website quoted Israeli security sources as saying that the group had already conducted several test flights.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri responded with a statement in which he asserted that Friday's reported arrests were "more evidence of the scope and gravity of the [PA's] security cooperation with Israel, which aims to thwart the efforts of the resistance and protect the security of the [Israeli] occupation."
"Hamas reaffirms that these practices will not stop the resistance from playing its role in protecting our people and their sanctities," the statement read.
The statement neither confirmed nor denied the reported arrests or the alleged plan to attack Israel.
Palestinian sources told Anadolu Agency earlier that at least ten suspects had been arrested ten days ago in connection with the alleged plot.Last Mod: 26 Ekim 2013, 11:10
