Israeli authorities on Monday denied a Palestinian businessman entry into the Gaza Strip via the Israel-Gaza Erez border crossing, delaying the announcement of a planned Gaza reconstruction conference.
Munib al-Masri had been returning from the occupied West Bank to announce a planned Gaza reconstruction conference to be held in cooperation with Gaza officials, according to Ali al-Hayek, head of the Palestinian Businessmen's Association.
"The announcement of the conference, however, was postponed," he told Anadolu Agency, after al-Masri was barred from entering the territory.
Last week, al-Masri had said that an international investors' conference – devoted to the prospect of rebuilding Gaza's shattered infrastructure – would be held in coming months.
The conference, he added, would be followed by an initiative aimed at rebuilding the Palestinian enclave, which since 2006 has groaned under a crippling Israeli blockade.
Al-Masri had been a member of a West Bank delegation that visited Gaza in late April to discuss proposals for reconciliation between rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah.Last Mod: 10 Haziran 2014, 09:41
