Israeli army troops on Sunday detained three Palestinians in the West Bank for their alleged involvement in clashes with Israeli forces.
The army said in a statement that its forces had arrested two Palestinians in the northern Beit Rima village and a third in the southern Al-Arroub refugee camp.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces detained Ali Khatib, a Palestinian youth from Beit Rima who had been wounded last month in earlier clashes with the Israeli army.
"Israeli troops severely beat him and his brother Yacoub, who had been released from detention three months ago and who suffer paralysis after being tortured during interrogations in Israeli prisons," a witness told The Anadolu Agency.
Yacoub was moved to a nearby hospital for treatment.
"I was badly beaten by Israeli soldiers, who assaulted my wounded brother," Yacoub told AA.
He went on to appeal to the Palestinian Authority to seek the release of his brother from Israeli detention.
Hazem al-Khatib, father of the detainee, told AA that the "Israeli army beat me and my wife during the arrest."
Israeli authorities could not be reached for a comment.
A member of Hamas, Yacoub had served ten years in Israeli prison on charges of shooting at Israeli army forces.
Some 7,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, according to official Palestinian figures.
