The Israeli army on Sunday fired into agricultural fields in the southern Gaza Strip, eyewitnesses have said.

Witnesses said that Israeli forces stationed on the strip's southeastern border had fired at homes and farmland on the outskirts of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip, causing minor damage.

The Israeli army has not issued a comment on the incident.

Israel has conducted several limited incursions into the coastal strip since the signing of an August cease-fire deal with Palestinian factions.

The cease-fire agreement ended a devastating, seven-week-long Israeli military onslaught on the coastal enclave.

The offensive, which lasted from July 7 to August 26 of last year, left 2,160 Palestinians dead – the vast majority of them civilians – and some 11,000 injured.
