US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Thursday that negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians would be resuming on August 14 in Jerusalem, and would be followed by a meeting in Jericho (West Bank).

Psaki said that U.S. Middle East peace envoy Martin Indyk and deputy special envoy Frank Lowenstein will travel to the region to facilitate negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians for a two-state solution.

Psaki also made a statement about  Israeli's decision to build 800 more housing units in Jewish settlements in the West Bank, saying ,"Our position on settlements has not changed. We do not accept the legitimacy of continued settlement activity and oppose any efforts to legitimize settlement outposts."

"The Secretary has made clear that he believes both of the negotiating teams are at the table in good faith and are committed to working together to make progress," she said.

The U.S.-brokered peace negotiations collapsed in 2010 due to continued Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank.

US want an agreement on a two-state solution to be established in West Bank, which was captured by Israel as a result of the Six-Day War in June.
