At least nine Palestinian detainees were injured in an assault by Israeli prison wardens in Ashkelon Prison in southern Israel, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said Tuesday.
At around 11am on Monday, Israeli forces stormed chambers 15 and 16 of the prison's third ward and attacked the Palestinian prisoners inside, the prisoners' club said in a statement.
The prison's third ward is the only section that houses Palestinian detainees accused of involvement in alleged attacks on Israeli targets.
"Israeli forces fired teargas inside the Palestinian detainees' cells, while beating them with batons, causing injuries," the club said, adding that five Israeli soldiers had also been injured in the violence.
All detainees in both chambers were later moved to isolated cells, the release added.
"The prison administration is punishing [Palestinian] detainees by cutting water and electricity off from their cells until now," the club said.Last Mod: 19 Kasım 2013, 17:23
