Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told a senior European Union official recently about his "willingness" to resume negotiations with the Palestinians to reach understandings about settlements' borders in the occupied West Bank, local media reported.

"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on Wednesday that he wants to resume negotiations with the Palestinians," an Israeli source was quoted by local daily Haaretz as saying on Tuesday.

According to the source, Netanyahu expressed his willingness to reach understandings on the borders of the settlement blocs in the West Bank that would be annexed by Israel in any a future peace agreement with the Palestinians.

According to the newspaper, it is the first time Netanyahu expressed his willingness to reach agreement about settlements’ borders.

The unnamed source told Haaretz that Netanyahu told Mogherini that he is ready to evacuate some areas in the West Bank in order to reach an understating with the Palestinians.

Peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators ground to a halt one year ago over Israel's refusal to release a group of Palestinian prisoners despite earlier pledges to do so.
