Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu on Monday expressed his great concern for the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
According to a statement made by OIC, Ihsanoglu underlined that they were closely monitoring the situation of Palestinian prisoners and supported their legal rights.
Stating that the situation of the Palestinian prisoners and Israel's violation of human rights via racist policies should be announced to the world, Ihsanoglu called on the international society to put pressure on Israel. A Palestinian minister said there would be rallies to support hunger striking prisoners. Nearly 5,000 Palestinians are held in Israeli jails.
Issa Qaraqea, minister for prisoner affairs in the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority, said public demonstrations to show solidarity with the group would be held all week.
