The Ramallah-based Palestinian unity government announced Tuesday plans to ban goods produced by five Israeli firms from entering the Palestinian market.
The move comes in response to an Israeli government decision announced last week to ban goods produced by five Palestinian companies from entering Israel and occupied East Jerusalem.
According to Palestinian government spokesperson Yousef al-Mahmoud, the new ban will apply to five Israeli companies whose products will be prohibited from entering the Palestinian market in the occupied West Bank.
"The decision was taken in response to Israeli measures taken one week ago against five Palestinian companies," al-Mahmoud told Anadolu Agency.
Of the five proscribed Israeli firms, three manufacture dairy goods and two produce meat products.
According to the official Palestinian statistics agency, the total annual value of Israeli exports to the Palestinian market stands at an estimated $3.5 billion, while annual Palestinian exports to Israel amount to some $700 million.Last Mod: 22 Mart 2016, 17:08
