A former chief of Palestine's Sharia court has founded a new political party called "Freedom and Liberty".

Sheikh Taysir al-Tamim has said that the new party's priority was to secure the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and to protect the holy sites of Muslims and Christians.

Al-Tamim stated that it was impossible for the Palestinian refugees to give up on their right to return to their lands under occupation and he emphasized that they did not accept "an alternative motherland project."

"I call on the Arab and Islam world to unite against Israel's Judaization of Jerusalem," he told reporters Wednesday in a press conference in Ramallah.

Al-Tamim said his party defended pluralism, equal rights and freedoms for all citizens, freedom of speech, and the participation of women in the social life.
