A Palestinian group has erected symbolic graves in the Gaza Strip for ailing Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails in an effort to draw attention to their plight.
"Palestinian inmates in Israeli prisons are suffering tremendously due to the [Israeli] occupation's medical negligence," Jamil Mezher, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), which set up the symbolic graves, told The Anadolu Agency.
He said the move aims to draw attention to the plight of Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails.
"Establishing the graveyard is a way to express our fear that we would end up receiving those ailing Palestinians inmates as corpses," Mezher said.
He went on to call on the international community to "urgently intervene to save the lives of Palestinian prisoners before it is too late."
According to official Palestinian figures, over 6,500 Palestinians are currently languishing in prisons throughout the self-proclaimed Jewish state.
