Hundreds of Palestinian mourners on Tuesday held a public funeral for Palestinian teenager Emam Duweikat, who was shot dead by Israeli forces in the West Bank one day earlier.

Palestinian demonstrators marched to a cemetery in Nablus city's Bita village to bury Duweikat, 17, after receiving his body from a public hospital in Nablus and performing funeral prayers at a local mosque.

The representatives of several Palestinian political factions attended the funeral procession.

During the march, angry demonstrators called on Palestinian armed factions to "avenge" Duweikat, who was shot dead on Monday evening by Israeli forces near the Zaatara checkpoint between Nablus from Ramallah.

The Israeli army said Duweikat and two other Palestinian boys – who were injured in the shooting – had been throwing stones at Israeli vehicles.

The Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority, for its part, denounced the killing and called on the international community to help end the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
