The closing of the Rafah border gate between Palestine and Egypt has caused a failure in reaching health equipment in Gaza city.
Speaking in a press conference, Palestinian Health Minister Mufid al-Mukhalalat stated that the closing of Rafah border gate blocked entrance of several Palestinians to Gaza, where 35% of medicines and 25% of medical equipment aid was transported through.
Al-Mukhalalat called on the Egyptian government, as well as international organizations, human rights and health foundations, to urgently open Gaza's 'vital point' Rafah border gate and provide medical aid, which was announced to be used only in states of emergency.
Egypt closed the Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip on July 5, 2013, two days after the first elected president of Egypt Mohammed Morsi was overthrown by the army.
The Egyptian army announced Wednesday it had discovered 39 tunnels on the borders with the Gaza Strip since June 9 loaded with commodities ready to be smuggled and had begun destroying more tunnels on the borders with the Gaza Strip.
More than 3,000 Palestinians were stranded on the Egyptian side since.
The Rafah crossing is Gaza’s only gateway to the outside world that surpasses Israel.
