Deputy chairman of Turkey's main opposition Republican People Party (CHP) said Monday the private who leaked secret documents regarding the bombings in Reyhanli had received the general approval of the Turkish public.

Private Utku Kali had been arrested for allegations that he leaked secret documents about the Reyhanli bombings which killed more than 50 people on May 11 in the southern Turkish province of Hatay.

"Kali received general approval in the eyes of the public for his action which made the truths unfold," stated CHP's Sezgin Tanrikulu in his written statement on Monday.

Tanrikulu claimed that Kali was exposed to oppression, both psychological and physical, during his period of detention, and that the Turkish public had shown a strong reaction to it.

The politician also stated that there were people who wanted to make Kali a "scapegoat" and called the attempt "unacceptable."
