Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said democratization package will also broaden horizon for Turkish economy, adding that as they raise the democracy standards economy will also benefit.
Speaking to Turkish construction companies on Tuesday, Erdogan defended the democracy package that was unveiled on Monday and said the package will be beneficial to various areas including economy.
“Democracy and economy advance simultaneously. If one of them is left behind, a country may collapse. They have to develop together. During the last 11 years, we strived for it and achieved it,” he said. Erdogan noted that as they raised the democracy standard in the country, the economy grew, and investment, employment, and production have risen up as well.
Turkish PM Erdogan also slammed the opposition parties’ stance against the package that aimed to enlarge the sphere of freedoms such as education in different languages and minority rights. “There is no opposition party around the world that criticizes and hampers new steps. At a normal country, opposition puts forward a reformist agenda and the government tries to block that agenda,” Erdogan said.Last Mod: 01 Ekim 2013, 15:32
