Greece shuts down DHKP-C camps

Following Greek Prime Minister Samaras’s visits to Ankara and Istanbul, the Athens camp of the left-wing group DHKP-C has been shut down.

The warning Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan provided to Greek Prime Minister Andonis Samaras during their March 4 meeting in Istanbul has produced results.

The Greek administration has shut down the Lavrion and Dilesi camps of the left-wing groupd DHPK-C, which has increased its activities during the last period and has been dealt a major blow by the successive operations of security forces.

The DHKP-C has moved from Lavrion to a five-story apartment building in Thessaloniki. It has been reported that in addition to the camp in Lavrion, the organization’s camp in Dilesi has also been shut down.

It has been identified that numerous suicide bombers and cop killers have been trained in the Lavrion camps, the latest being the suicide bomber Ecevit Sanli who attacked the United States Embassy in Ankara.

It has been learned that, after the ongoing internal unrest, the DHKP-C has closed its camps in Syria where activities had increased in recent years.

It is said that the organization which has closed its camps in Damascus and Latakia is managed from the apartment in Thessaloniki.
