A local politician from the Republican People's Party (CHP) in the northern province of Zonguldak has resigned from his party and applied to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) for membership.
Yaşar Sever, the mayor of the Zonguldak town of Ormanlı, announced on Thursday that he and four other members of the municipal council -- Recep Ergün, Zeki Ergün, Sabri Yılmaz and Tacettin Çetin -- had resigned from the CHP and applied to AKP headquarters seeking membership.
Sever did not specify the reason for his departure from the CHP.
Sever was elected the mayor of the Ormanlı Municipality in 2004 for the AKP, but resigned in 2007. He was elected Ormanlı mayor for a second term in the 2009 local elections, this time for the CHP.Last Mod: 10 Mayıs 2013, 12:05
