There is new information about the announcement that Abdullah Ocalan, jailed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) leader, will make during the March 21 celebrations for Kurdish traditional holiday of Nowruz. While Ocalan’s announcement regarding the schedule for the withdrawal of armed PKK members from Turkey is expected, it is indicated that PKK groups have starting leaving Turkey.
It is said that the message Abdullah Ocalan, who is serving a life sentence, will deliver on March 21 will have two key points. It has been learned that these will be his calls for withdrawal and democratization.
It is expected that Ocalan will declare that they will do their part to ensure the realization of peace, and will request that both sides be cautious so that no conflict arises during the withdrawal process.
According to reports, PKK groups began withdrawing outside Turkey starting last week. It is recorded that the first group withdrew while wearing civilian clothes, not PKK outfits.
Not all PKK members will move abroad, as it is expressed that the members whose names did not come up in relation to any attacks or incidents despite their being in the mountains might stay in Turkey and enter politics.
According to what sources have gathered, in terms of parliament monitoring the withdrawals, Abdullah Ocalan has requested that parliament create a committee to record the last symbolic withdrawal.Last Mod: 19 Mart 2013, 17:04
