The leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)-affiliated Democratic Union Party (PYD), Saleh Muslim, has threatened Turkey following operation Euphrates Shield operation conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and air forces belonging to the U.S.-led international coalition, with the U.S. aiming to clear the extrem group from the north Syrian city of Jarablus.

"The operation will end badly for Turkey," Muslim wrote on Twitter account, saying that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has a "Kasımpaşa mentality," referring to the Istanbul district where President Erdoğan was born.

Previously, Muslim wrote on Twitter in three languages that "Turkey is in a Syrian quagmire. It will be defeated like ISIL."

On Wednesday, Ankara launched a cross-border operation in Syria against the ISIL extremist organization.

The operation comes in response to extremist attacks on Turkish soil and artillery fire by ISIL extremists in Syria on targets inside Turkey.

Security measures ramped up in Turkey

Turkey took crucial steps, with more than 37,000 individuals on a no-entry list between 2011 and February 2016.

More than 3,000 foreigners, who had entered Turkey through illegal means, were deported for suspected ties to extremist organizations.

Also, 7,500 foreigners were checked by the Risk Analysis Centers that were established, with more than 1,700 sent back to their countries of origin.

In addition, as part of operations by Turkish law enforcement officials against extremist groups, 2,433 individuals — of whom 1,030 are foreigners — were detained and 808 of the total number were arrested for having links to ISIL.

Turkey also increased its physical security precautions along its border with Syria, including the building of smart security towers equipped with arms and a reinforced wall, of which 300 kilometers is presently completed.
