Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party has joined the Alliance of European Conservatives and Reformists (AECR) – a recently emerged political group in Europe with members from numerous countries from the continent.

AECR campaigns for radical reform of the European Union and aims to spread conservative values. It works alongside the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament and is associated with national parties and the New Direction think tank. The AECR is recognized and partially funded by the European Parliament.

Free enterprise, free and fair trade and competition, minimal regulation, lower taxation, and small government as the ultimate catalysts for individual freedom and personal and national prosperity, freedom of the individual, more personal responsibility and greater democratic accountability, sustainable, clean energy supply with an emphasis on energy security, the importance of the family as the bedrock of society, and the sovereign integrity of the nation state, opposition to EU federalism are what the AECR adopts as common values.

The alliance was formed officially in 2009.
