Turkish National Security Council held a closed-door meeting Thursday on recent turmoil in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.

The Council convened in Ankara under the chairmanship of President Abdullah Gul.

In a statement following the meeting, the Council highlighted that change and transformation process in Arab countries should serve regional peace, stability and prosperity.

The statement said evacuation efforts to rescue Turkish nationals from Libya as well as political crisis in Lebanon were also discussed at the meeting.

Fight against PKK was one of the topics of the agenda at the meeting.

The Council discussed also recent developments in Iraq, the statement said, adding that economic development and reconstruction efforts exerted by the new Iraqi government formed last December would help ensure national consensus, social peace and welfare of Iraqi people.

Turkey reaffirms its support to Iraq in this respect, the statement said.

The Council also reviewed works of the trilateral mechanism among Turkey, Iraq and United States established to combat terrorism, it added.
