Turkish FM: Assad, ISIL are backstage partners

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) a group fighting in Syria, emerged when the opposition gained the upper hand in northern Syria, said Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu when answering questions of Anadolu Agency editors on Thursday.

Speaking on Syrian civil war, Davutoglu talking about the link between the regime and ISIL said, “Syrian regime and the ISIL are backstage partners.”

Stating that if the Syrian regime accepted a democratic transition, it would now be walking with Turkey Davutoglu said: "We are on the side of Syrian people no matter what their ethnicity or sect they belong to"

Davutoglu called for all foreign forces to leave Syria and said: "Al Qaeda, ISIL, Kurdish PYD are all risk factors for us."

He suggested that regime figures not involved in killings should remain in power."

Barrel bomb attacks in Syria are a crime against humanity

Touching upon the violence of the regime Davutoglu said barrel bombs are mass destructive weapon and attacks with these are crimes against humanity.

He blamed the West's silence on Syria on the resulting power vacuum in Syrian cities and over 2 million of refugees.”

"A psychological war being conducted on Turkey”

Davutoglu stated that Turkey would give the same aid if the fleeing people from Syria were Alawites "A psychological war being conducted on Turkey and we are being portrayed as a country supporting terrorists."

Saying that the most appreciated Turkish operation in Syria would be its aid to refugees Davutoglu said "Unfortunately, there seems to be a psychological move targeting Turkey as if Turkey is supporting the armed radical groups in Syria. However, the radical groups in Syria make the regime seem like a lesser evil by adopting such wrong methods."

“We appreciate Iran to attend Geneva 2”

Davutoglu, concerning the Geneva 2 Conference said “Turkey’s stance is clear, we want the Syrian opposition to attend the Geneva 2 conference."

On the other hand, upon a question about Iran's attendance of the Geneva Conference Davutoglu said "We support Iran to attend the Geneva 2 conference as long as Iran accepts the conditions agreed on in Geneva 1."

Concerning the Syrian opposition’s position for Geneva 2 Conference "I presume the Syrian oppositon will attend the Geneva 2, but the international community must do its part to ensure that the Syrian regime ends its assaults,” said Turkish FM.

Turkish FM also said "I call on AA to become the voice of the Syrian people, to become the voice of humanity when everyone remains silent on the humanitarian crisis in Syria"
