Turkey’s two F-16 fighter jets have intercepted a Syrian aircraft that was spotted approaching to Turkish border, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced on its website.

TSK said Syrian SU-24 warplane was spotted during a routine flight and Turkish jets were diverted to avert Syrian plane. Upon interception, the plane returned back, TSK said.

Turkish jets shot down a Syrian helicopter last month near Hatay after the Syrian chopper violated Turkish airspace. Turkey changed its rule of engagement with Syria after being continuously attacked and disturbed thereby in especially Akcakale and Viransehir regions.
