Turkish opposition fails to achieve its aims

World Bulletin / News Desk

The polls have closed in the Turkish local elections and the first results have started coming in.

So far, there have been no major surprises, with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK Party way ahead in the lead across the country.

CHP is having more success, however, along the west Aegean coast of Turkey, leading in Izmir, Aydin, Mugla, and Canakkale. They also performed better than the AK Party in the Thrace districts of Tekirdag, Kirklareli and Edirne.

CHP are also in the lead in the central Anatolian cities Eskisehir and Burdur. Although much of the northern Black Sea region voted for the AK Party, CHP took Sinop and Giresun.

Meanwhile, other opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) took south city of Adana suprisingly but in general it seems to lose vote.
