Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek stated on Friday that a probe was launched on the country's ombudsman Nihat Omeroglu.

Cicek said that he launched a probe on Omeroglu after reading several news reports that the Ombudsman met with public prosecutor Zekeriya Oz.

"I started a probe as he works for the parliament. Omeroglu has also requested to be investigated," Cicek said.

Istanbul Republican Prosecutor Zekeriya Oz, who led the major cases of the Ergenekon coup attempt and the ongoing Dec. 17 anti-graft operation, was reassigned as Bakirkoy Deputy Prosecutor following claims that he enjoyed a costly vacation abroad financed by a Turkish construction tycoon who was one of the suspects of the graft probe. Oz has denied the claims.
