Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday addressed a rally of his Justice and Development (AK) Party in the Black Sea province of Rize, his hometown, as part of his campaign for the June general elections.
Erdogan said his government implemented a comprehensive economic policy to grow Turkey's economy thrice since they came to power back in 2002.
"Turkey's national income soared to 740 billion USD from 230 billion USD during our eight-and-a-half-year rule. We have boosted our country's profile and its reputation," Erdogan said a huge crowd at city's largest square.
Erdogan said his government also extended a helping hand to Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Libya and elsewhere for those in need, adding that they had also exerted extensive efforts to maintain peace and security globally.
The premier also said AK Party's top priority would be making a new constitution, adding, "for the first time the nation will make its own constitution, which will be civilian, liberal and participatory."
