Welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims across the world rushed to mosques to perform the first Tarawih prayer, an extra prayer specific to Ramadan, according to the practices of Prophet Mohammed, performed by Muslims following the obligatory night prayer Isha'.

Upon the news coming from Saudi Arabia that "The Ramadan crescent hasn't been observed in the sky yet", Muslims of Palestine, to begin their fast on Wednesday, started Ramadan with the first Tarawih prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

All roads to the mosque were enlightened by Arabs as every year.

The Israeli Goevernment, stating that Palestinians living in the West Bank over the age of 60 would be allowed to worship in Al-Aqsa Mosque, announced it would permit the Palestinians under the age of 60 if they were never involved in any crime before.

Muslims in Palestine welcomed Ramadan with first Tarawih prayer under leadership of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.

Muslims in the Italian capital Rome started Ramadan with the first Tarawih prayer at Rome Mosque.

The Muslims from different nationalities gathered at Rome Mosque and prayed under the leadership of Imam Mohamed Hassan.

Afghan Muslims also filled the mosques in Afghanistan.

People would observe one of the longest daily period of fasting, 17 hours, in the country where the temperature exceeds 40 degrees from time to time.

Muslims in the Greek capital of Athens started Ramadan crestfallenly.

They welcomed Ramadan with the first Tarawih prayer at airless basements.
