Popular online game Counter-Strike has released a new version based on the real-life events of the Srebrenica massacre, in which over 8,000 of ethnic Bosniak Muslim civilians were executed and dumped in mass graves by ethnic Serbs in 1995.
The game, which has becSrebrenica ome popular among gamers in the Balkans including from former Yugoslavian countries like Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia and even Bosnia-Herzegovina highlights the level of insensitivity of people in the world of virtual reality gaming, in which the aim is to kill opponents to win.
While the painful memories of the massacre are still felt today with many involved in the ethnic cleansing still yet to be brought to justice, one gamer even uses the name Ratko Mladic, after one of the commanders reponsible for the massacre.
The game, called 'Srebrenica 95', even has a Facebook page in which users compete in posting their high scores. The Avaz newspaper in Bosnia-Herzegovina is now calling upon its readers to launch a complaint to Facebook about the group and have it closed down.Last Mod: 03 Nisan 2014, 16:38
