New dolphin species found in Brazil

World Bulletin / News Desk

A new species of Dolphin has been found in the Araguaia river in Brazil, the first such discovery in almost a century.

Named after the river it was found in, there are believed to be about 1,000 living in the Araguaia river basin.

Despite being just discovered, researchers already fear for the future of the species, as the construction of hydro-electric dams on the river threaten their main source of food, fish.

Fishermen in the region are also known to shoot dolphins for stealing their fishing nets.
