US scientists have developed tiny robots that mimick the behaviour of termites and even building large structures in the same way termites do.
The robots are not installed with any particular program which contains a plan, but communicate with one another with limited cues which allow them to cooperate in building the structures.
The scientists designed the robots based on the concept of 'stigmergy', which similar to the way termites behave, is a system in which the robots react according to their immediate environment.
Furthermore, the robots are designed to work in a team, and therefore require very little individual knowlegde. Using infrared and ultrasound sensors, they sense the presence of bricks, other nearby bots and the grid space as they move through it.Last Mod: 14 Şubat 2014, 15:54
