Philippine President Benigno Aquino III offered Tuesday to help Turkey combat the ISIL, local media reported.

His comments to Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu came on the final day of Davutoglu’s visit to the archipelago and follow Turkey’s pledge to help with the peace process on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.

During a ceremonial toast at Malacanang Palace Aquino said Turkey faced challenges on its border with Syria, where ISIL has been battling for control of the town of Kobane for two months, DZRH radio reported.

“Just as your people have partnered with us in advancing a just and lasting peace in Mindanao, allow me to say that it is my nation’s hope that we will be able to help Turkey as it confronts the persisting and emerging challenges of our time, such as the threat of ISIS [ISIL],” Aquino said. “Rest assured, you will find a partner in the Filipino.”

Turkey has supported the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro, an agreement that aims bring greater autonomy to the Muslim-majority south.

The two leaders have signed at least 45 agreements between the Philippines and Turkey during Davutoglu's two-day visit.
