Three Turkish policemen died and six were seriously injured when the bus they were travelling in crashed Monday morning in the central Turkish city of Sivas.
A total of 43 policemen based in eastern Turkish city of Malatya were on the bus. The policemen were drafted in as extra security for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's visit to city of Gumushane as part of weekend tour to northeastern Turkey and were returning to Malatya when the accident occured.
Thirty five, including the six in critical health, were also injured.
One of the injured policemen, Yusuf Aydin, said the vehicle was travelling at high speed while taking a bend.
"I think the bus was a bit on high speed. It teetered while taking a bend. I do not remember the rest," he told reporters while being sent to another hospital in Sivas city center.
Malatya Governor, Suleyman Kamci, told AA that the bus overturned after losing control on the slippery road due to rain.
