Turkish army kills 5 PKK terrorists in southeast

Turkish Air Force killed five PKK terrorists in an airstrike in southeastern Hakkari province on early Tuesday, a statement said.

The PKK terrorists were trying to attack the military post area near Iran, Iraq and Turkey’s borders cross in Semdinli district, the statement issued by Hakkari’s Office of the Governor said.

The security forces carried out an airstrike and killed 3 terrorists.

The forces also conducted a ground operation in Tekeli area after airstrike, killing two more terrorists and seized three AK-47 rifles with 15 chargers and 13 hand grenades.

Meanwhile, 14 terror suspects were arrested Tuesday in western Izmir province.

Izmir’s Provincial Security Directorate said in a statement that the suspects were arrested on charges of spreading PKK’s propaganda via social media.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
