At least 30 suspected rebels were killed in fresh army air strikes in different parts of North Waziristan on Tuesday, officials said.

Army jets killed at least 30 suspected Taliban when they pounded militant hideouts in Dattakhel, Mursikhle and Kamsham areas on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border Tuesday morning, according to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) - a representative of the Pakistan army.

Six hideouts and a huge cache of weapons and ammunition were destroyed in the air strikes, the ISPR said.

The recent casualties put the militants’ death toll to over 570 in the ongoing military onslaught which began on June 15 in the hope of eradicating the mother coalition of Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

The figures, however, cannot be independently verified as media have no access to the operation-hit areas.

Some 33 soldiers have been killed in operations against the TTP. Around one million people from Waziristan have already taken refuge in the adjoining Bannu district while over 6,000 have fled to safety in neighboring Afghanistan.
