At least 43 people have been killed and countless injured in a blast at a Shia mosque in southern Pakistan on Friday, police and doctors said.
Police have speculated that a suicide bomber was responsible for the blast which occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque in the Lakhi Dhar area of Shikarpur district.
Dr. Shaukat Memon, the head of the local government hospital, told The Anadolu Agency that 43 people have died with the numbers injured increasing.
He said more dead and injured are being brought to the hospital and that many of the injured are in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses said that around 600 people were present at the time of the blast.
This was the second blast at a Shia Mosque in a month in Pakistan, where there is a three-decade history of sectarian violence between the Sunni-majority and Shia-minority Muslim communities.Last Mod: 30 Ocak 2015, 14:41
