A military helicopter crashed in Itum-Kalinsky District in Chechnya, according to a source in the Chechen Ministry of Interior.
Nine people were aboard, five of whom died, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.
The helicopter crashed deep in the mountains, according to a disaster management authority in Chechnya, which also sent two ambulances to the crash site.
The cause of the crash remains unknown.
