Turkey congratulated new prime minister of Libya, Ahmed Maiteeq, on winning a confidence vote in the parliament a week after gunmen attacked the congress, demanding its suspension.
"We hope the hard-fought revolution in brother Libya will be protected and completed with nation-wide dialogue and consensus," said a statement issued by Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
On May 18, forces loyal to former army general Khalifa Haftar launched an attack to the parliament to challenge its legitimacy after Maiteeq was elected as the prime minister following a chaotic parliamentary session.
Turkish Foreign Ministry also reiterated Turkey's support for "brother" Libyan people.
On Monday, Maiteeq spoke to Anadolu Agency and asserted that his government would launch an "inclusive" national dialogue that he hoped would end months of political turmoil in the North African country.Last Mod: 27 Mayıs 2014, 18:00
