The UN Syria envoy met with members of the main opposition group at a Geneva hotel Sunday, after they threatened to leave before planned peace talks begin in earnest, several opposition sources said.
The sources said the meeting between envoy Staffan de Mistura and delegates of the High Negotiations Committee took place at a hotel and not at the UN's European headquarters, where indirect talks on endingSyria's brutal nearly five-year conflict have been scheduled.
Mistura said Sunday he was "optimistic and determined" following an informal meeting with the main opposition group, which had threatened to leave before planned peace talks begin in earnest.
